Course overview

To develop students as educators who have a critical awareness of the impact of diversity and identity on school students' experiences of, and engagement with, educational institutions.

Course learning outcomes

  • explain how educational processes are linked to structural power relations along axes of socio-economic, gender, racial and ethnic differences
  • identify key elements of social justice, anti-racist and multicultural education policies and pedagogical approaches
  • identify the extent to which education processes both develop and maintain cultural capital
  • recognise the influence of social, cultural, political and historical factors on their practice as educators
  • identify ways to implement inclusive and socially just teaching approaches
