Course overview
This course will develop preservice teachers to work as members of a birth to 5 years teaching team and to develop their knowledge and skills to engage children in democratic inquiry-based pedagogies and pedagogical documentation. Preservice teachers will focus on the role of the teacher in a preschool context. Preservice teachers will apply an advanced body of knowledge of contemporary theories and practice as they engage with curriculum documents, children, families and educators to implement democratic inquiry-based pedagogies in a preschool setting.
Course learning outcomes
- Display effective professional relationships and dispositions with children, families, and staff in the preschool setting
- Apply knowledge and skills with creativity, initiative and a high level of personal autonomy, accountability and respect while working in a team setting within the field and on campus
- Apply an advanced body of knowledge of contemporary theories and practice as they engage with curriculum documents, children, families and educators to implement democratic inquiry-based pedagogies in a preschool setting
- Design and evaluate the use of pedagogical documentation to demonstrate children's learning and provide evidence of developing practices as a teacher
- Manage the daily tasks, routines and administrative duties associated with the work of teachers in a selected educational setting
- Reflect on teaching and learning experiences in the light of professional standards, policies, legal and ethical guidelines for the profession and developing beliefs of own role as a teacher
