Course overview
This course aims to support students to understand how educational psychology and the theories of learning relate to contemporary teaching practices and incorporate this knowledge into their teaching and learning strategies.
Course learning outcomes
- Evaluate the benefits and role of physical activity in children's health and development as well as how biases and assumptions about diverse groups and worldviews affect practices, behaviours, and attitudes to movement and physical activity
- Understand and apply range of skills, competencies, knowledge and intercultural development to achieve positive outcomes in the HPE learning area
- Identify and apply principles of practice, planning and cultural diversity for physical, cognitive, social and affective learner outcomes in lesson plans
- Understand, create and maintain safe, inclusive and developmental learning environments in HPE learning episodes including the valuing of diverse groups including EAL/D and First Nations students
- Appraise and critically self-reflect on a model of culturally, socially and physically inclusive practice with the intention to apply these in a practical way
- Present and reflect on effective learning experiences in Health and Physical Education for peers and pre-school or school students and engage in critical self-inquiry as a core process for of effective ongoing professional teaching practice
