Course overview

To further develop skills in the teaching and learning processes within the Humanities and Social Sciences learning area in middle years and lower secondary schooling contexts.

Course learning outcomes

  • Research through issues-based learning a suitable topic for inclusion in the Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum
  • Describe the steps and strategies used in the research process
  • Critically analyse and evaluate contemporary issues relevant to teachers of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Develop a comprehensive Humanities and Social Sciences unit and lesson plan, and a basic literacy plan suitable for middle and lower secondary students using appropriate links to the ACARA framework
  • Explain a range of practical activities, teaching strategies, assessment tasks and resources that can be employed to enhance Humanities and Social Sciences teaching and learning
  • Evaluate a variety of Humanities and Social Sciences teaching resources
