Course overview

This course will further develop students' knowledge and skills in prescribing and programming exercise for the broader community for future professional practice, including apparently healthy individuals of all ages. Exercise prescription process (including how to: conduct an initial consult and a pre-exercise screen, develop an exercise testing battery, and design an appropriate exercise program), aerobic and musculoskeletal exercise testing and prescription in healthy and 'special' populations, high intensity interval training, adaptations to aerobic and resistance training, exercise monitoring, periodisation, and advanced training methods.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate competency in screening participants using pre-exercise screening tools and procedures
  • Demonstrate competency in conducting health and skill-related fitness assessments
  • Design appropriate exercise/activity programs in a range of settings and for apparently healthy individuals to enhance their health and fitness
  • Demonstrate knowledge of professional practices in exercise prescription to apparently healthy individuals.
