Course overview

This course aims to develop critical knowledge and practices in inclusive education to provide for special educational needs of learners of all abilities. It will investigate inclusion strategies, policies and legislation, exceptionality, neurodiversity, partnerships with providers, and person-centred planning and advocacy.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate awareness and application of the principles of inclusive education in early childhood/primary/secondary classrooms and school settings
  • Demonstrate understandings of the characteristics of students that make up classroom diversity and adopt pedagogical approaches to address such diversity in the mainstream classroom
  • Demonstrate an understanding of legislation, regulations, policies and obligations related to inclusion including international agreements and legal entitlements
  • Select from and use a wide range of evidence-based pedagogical approaches to cater for specific needs and disabilities
