Course overview

This course introduces foundational knowledge of First Nations Peoples in Australia, and how their continuing histories, cultures, languages and knowledges inform all learning areas and impact all aspects of Australian life. The course underpins critical learning pathways aimed at addressing social inequity and shaping a positive future for our state, nation and the world. Students will also explore the role of culturally responsive pedagogies in ensuring all learners are visible in the enacted curriculum.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the knowledge and skills required to work effectively with diverse Aboriginal learners, families, peoples, perspectives, and histories
  • Explain and justify assessment, curriculum and evidence-based pedagogical practices relevant to Aboriginal education
  • Interpret knowledge of culturally responsive teaching that respects and values the democratic rights of Aboriginal children and the sovereignties of Aboriginal First Nations through education
