Course overview

To introduce students to theoretical principles and practical issues relating to human development and learning.

Course learning outcomes

  • demonstrate familiarity with psychological theory and research, relevant to educational issues
  • identify the relationship between theory, research and classroom practice
  • analyse classroom practices using psychological methods
  • apply knowledge of developmental theories of learning and cognition to classroom practice
  • evaluate the contribution of psychological research to educational issues
  • use databases to locate research findings in educational psychology
  • demonstrate awareness of what constitutes an effective teaching and learning environment in the content of relevant legislative, policy guidelines that influence teaching and learning
