Course overview
To further develop pre-service teacher understanding of materials and workshop processes and to design and realise metal-based solutions. Pre-service teachers will be taught commonly used tools, equipment, machines, and processes used in D&T metalworking workshops. Emphasis will be placed on safe operation procedures, and teaching pedagogies used for D&T metal workshops. Pre-service teachers will complete a series of skill-based tasks and follow design briefs to realise metal-based solutions.
Course learning outcomes
- Research, design, construct and evaluate a variety of products
- Identify the specific characteristics, properties and appropriate usage of various types of materials and composite materials
- Safely operate a range of hand and power tools and machines to make products from a range of materials
- Produce a variety of design documentation demonstrating the design and construction of products from a range of materials
