Course overview
This course will further develop an understanding of the use of computer aided design (CAD) software packages to visualise and design solutions in order to produce designs into a physical project through the use of laser cutting, 3D printing or CNC machining. Pre-service teachers will further develop their expertise in operating state of the art machinery and maintaining best workshop practices. Additionally, Pre-service teachers are introduced to sustainability in design and production processes while ensuring all practices meet WHS requirements.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically analyse and apply a design process to research, design and develop innovative products using sustainable materials, processes, technologies and systems
- Identify and explain the specific characteristics, properties and appropriate usage of various types of materials and composite materials, in a specific context
- Apply WHS knowledge to competently and safely operate a range of state-of-the-art digital equipment as well as hand and power tools and machines to realise products in tangible materials, in a specific context
- Analyse and apply critical reflection in evaluating products in terms of design, materials and systems production
