Course overview

To consolidate pre-service teacher knowledge through the creation and management of stimulating Design learning environments as capable users of a wide range of materials, tools and machinery in designing and producing metal and wood solutions. Pre-service teachers will understand and apply WHS practices through selection of materials, tools, machinery and processes to create a metal and a timber project. There is an additional focus on safety and machine maintenance.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify strategies to teach Design and Technology to a broad and inclusive range of school students with particular emphasis on Work Health and Safety and the use of machines and tools
  • Manage a wide range of resources and applying WHS knowledge and practices to deliver a safe and stimulating Design and Technology curriculum
  • Apply WHS knowledge to competently and safely operate a range of state-of- the-art digital equipment as well as hand and power tools and machines to realise products in tangible materials
  • Produce a variety of design documentation demonstrating the design & Construction of products from a range of materials
