Course overview

To introduce pre-service teachers to materials and workshop processes to design and realise timber based solutions. Pre-service teachers will be taught commonly used tools, equipment, machines, and processes used in D&T woodworking workshops. Emphasis will be placed on safe operation procedures, and teaching pedagogies used for D&T wood workshops. Pre-service teachers will complete a series of skill-based tasks and follow design briefs to realise timber-based solutions.

Course learning outcomes

  • Research, design, construct and evaluate a variety of products
  • Identify the specific characteristics, properties and appropriate usage of various types of materials and composite materials
  • Safely operate a range of hand and power tools and machines to make products from a range of materials
  • Produce a variety of design documentation demonstrating the design and construction of products from a range of materials
