Course overview
The aim of the course is to develop the mathematical skills and knowledge for teaching mathematics in the primary years of schooling, with a focus on number and developing number sense. This course will focus on developing subject-matter knowledge relevant for Primary mathematics, focusing on mathematical concepts, identifying facts, rules, and relationships in and between these concepts. The content in this course is drawn from the 'Number' content strand of the Australian Curriculum.
Course learning outcomes
- Select and apply a range of mathematical representations and strategies to solve problems, with a focus on number
- Demonstrate appropriate use of a range of tools, including digital technologies, to enable, enhance and extend mathematical understanding in number
- Communicate mathematical thinking and reasoning in spoken, written and visual modes
- Reflect on and enhance their own mathematical development
