Course overview

In this course, students will study a range of theatre production skills and processes with appropriate content, methodologies, materials and curricula to enable the implementation of drama and creative arts performance and products within the secondary educational environment. Preservice teachers will develop skills and techniques to support secondary students' capabilities and growth as artists. This will involve the exploration of drama-based pedagogies, aesthetics, the elements of the 5 arts subjects, performance and rehearsal strategies and an exploration of performance and production elements. Preservice teachers will view a theatre production for responding purposes and explore connections with the drama and SACE curriculum for teaching and learning in drama and creative arts.

Course learning outcomes

  • Employ knowledge of drama-based pedagogy, teaching strategies, music elements and visual arts design principles within the requirements of SACE and the arts curriculum to facilitate theatre production
  • Access and utilise a range of resources within SACE, the arts curriculum and use arts-related technologies and production terminologies
  • Apply arts-related cultural diversity and ethical consideration
  • Work collaboratively to plan, communicate, problem solve and function effectively as a member of a production team
  • Apply Stanislavski, Uta Hagen and physical theatre techniques to illustrate and perform with characterisation
