Course overview
This course will prepare students with the literacy and numeracy skills required for a professional career in teaching. Students will develop their literacy and numeracy skills in preparation for a career in teaching. For literacy, students will develop skills in understanding, evaluating, organising and analysing texts. In the numeracy component, students will increase their confidence and ability in interpreting, using and communicating mathematical concepts in different contexts.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an ability to reflect on and enhance their own development in literacy and in numeracy
- Apply technical skills of writing including appropriate syntax and grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage
- Demonstrate an understanding of how different text types are structured according to language and syntactic features
- Critically read, analyse and identify rhetorical writing techniques in a range of different text types
- Identify mathematical information and meaning in different contexts
- Use mathematical concepts of number, measurement, and statistics in real-world and less routine contexts
- Interpret and analyse a range of data displays and representations
