Course overview
This course will build on existing food technologies skills and further develop more complex skills, knowledge and professional expertise associated with teaching and learning in Food Technologies in a senior school setting. This course will allow opportunities for students to apply knowledge of the relevant SACE framework when designing, planning and developing Food Technologies teaching and learning programs and resources. Preservice teachers will develop the necessary skills, knowledge, attitudes, and professional expertise to teach both theory and practical components of Food Technologies programs which meet the needs and preferred futures of senior school adolescents. They will further consolidate advanced skills in food processing and preparation while considering the topical and ethical aspects of the food industry. Exploration and consideration into the societal influences on food production and food choices and the impacts of these decisions will be addressed. Preservice teachers will investigate, design, produce and evaluate for a designed solution. They will then analyse how they could adapt content and ideas to suit a variety of different student needs in different contexts. They will then design and develop Design and Technology classroom resources and units of work, analysing and evaluating how they meet curriculum requirements, including further changes that can be made, in a cycle of continual improvement.
