Course overview
In this course, students will build on existing textiles technologies skills and further develop more complex skills, knowledge and professional expertise associated with teaching and learning in Textiles Technologies in a senior school setting. To allow opportunities for students to apply knowledge of the relevant SACE framework when designing, planning and developing Textiles Technologies teaching and learning programs and resources. Preservice teachers will develop the necessary skills, knowledge, attitudes, and professional expertise to teach both theory and practical components of Textiles Technologies programs which meet the needs and preferred futures of senior school adolescents. They will further consolidate advanced skills in textiles technologies while considering the topical and ethical aspects of the textiles industry. Exploration and consideration into the societal, cultural and ethical influences on clothing production and choices and the impacts of these decisions will be addressed. Preservice teachers will investigate, design, produce and evaluate for a designed solution. They will then analyse how they could adapt content and ideas to suit a variety of different student needs in different contexts. They will then design and develop Design and Technology classroom resources and units of work, analysing and evaluating how they meet curriculum requirements, including further changes that can be made, in a cycle of continual improvement.
Course learning outcomes
- Employ the latest technologies and design principles in planning and developing relevant and engaging textiles technology lessons in line with the SACE framework
- Identify and apply concepts around the societal influences including socio-economic and culture on clothing and textiles choices
- Employ a high level of practical skill in the designing and making of textiles products suitable for senior textiles technology classroom use
- Apply WHS knowledge in identifying, applying and using tools and equipment in the textiles technology classroom
- Investigate, identify and critique reasons for fabric choices in the production of textiles for a specific purpose
- Integrate topical and ethical aspects of the textiles industry into curriculum planning
