Course overview
The aim of this course is to introduce concepts of literature and text with a focus on reading and viewing practices in social and cultural contexts. This course has a focus on literature produced by and for adolescents. Preservice teachers will identify the literary elements and language features of linguistic and visual texts such as novels, graphic novels, films and digital media. There will be an emphasis on the semiotic resources and literary devices used in written, visual, spoken, audio and multimodal texts produced for and by adolescents. Preservice teachers will be invited to explore their own reading practices with literature.
