Course overview

To enable students to further examine programming and planning in English in the middle years including consideration of disadvantaged students and the place of English in an integrated middle schooling curriculum.

Course learning outcomes

  • take account of the different needs, interests and backgrounds of young adolescents and emerging adults; and have developed skills in assessing and addressing issues in literacy development
  • make judgments about the suitability of various texts for teaching young adolescents and emerging adult learners
  • prepare and assess an English program for a class in the middle years within a particular framework
  • make judgments on learners' demonstrated skills and understandings within the requirements of a particular framework
  • have a repertoire of strategies for teaching texts, recording learners' achievements, and supporting students with difficulties
  • discuss equity issues and English
