Course overview
This course aims to develop critical understanding and pedagogical approaches to Languages Education, to ensure culturally responsive approaches to First Nations people's knowledges and perspectives. It will develop strategies and pedagogies for linguistic and cultural inclusivity for learners of all backgrounds. Pedagogies of inclusion in Languages education, and an introduction to the Australian Curriculum: Languages, including the Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages; first, background and additional languages; and Auslan, are investigated and used for planning teaching and learning. The course underpins critical learning pathways aimed at addressing social inequity and shaping a positive future for our state, nation and the world.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the knowledge and skills required to work effectively and inclusively with learners with diverse languages and cultures backgrounds and perspectives
- Plan curriculum, assessment, and evaluation of learning using curriculum frameworks and evidence-based pedagogical practices relevant to learners of diverse languages backgrounds
- Interpret and implement knowledge of culturally responsive teaching that respects and values the rights of Aboriginal children and the sovereignties of Aboriginal First Nations through education
