Course overview

This course aims to develop advanced knowledge in Advanced Field Geoscience, and to develop the skills required for the practice of independent scientific research. It complements the Honours Field Geoscience Project course to provide professional development training relevant for a career in the chosen discipline, or for further study along a research training pathway.

  • North Island Geology
  • South Island Geology

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify, measure and record a wide variety of geological features using discipline and industry standards
  • Develop detailed knowledge of the geological setting and development of continental plate margins
  • Plan and undertake a field investigation to document and characterise the geological evolution of a terrane through time
  • Integrate a wide variety of geological data and observations to construct 3D and 4D geological models in the form of maps, cross-sections, time-space plots and schematic diagrams
  • Synthesise research knowledge with observations made in the field and communicate these results to peers
