Course overview
This course covers the processes that control the formation of ore deposits and mineral resources. Mineral resource forming processes are examined in the framework of the tectonic, petrogenetic and geochemical evolution of the Earth's crust on local, regional and global geological scales.
Course learning outcomes
- Understand the significance of a mineral systems approach to predictive exploration methods, and the ESG (environmental, social, and governance) issues in which exploration is undertaken
- Understand the source regions of metal elements in a global context over time
- Understand how metal elements are transported by thermal and fluid processes from source to deposit scale
- Understand the setting in which metal elements are concentrated to economic-grade deposits in global geological settings
