Course overview

To provide students with an understanding of principles of land use planning and of the significance of appropriate land use planning for sustainable environmental management.

Course learning outcomes

  • describe and explain a range of principles and concepts underlying contemporary land-use planning practice
  • develop an understanding of current land-use planning problems and issues
  • discuss the role of government in land-use planning
  • conceptualise current planning problems or issues
  • understand the importance of natural resources as the basis for comprehensive planning
  • understand how the planning process can resolve contemporary planning problems and issues within the context of environmentally sustainable management practices.
