Course overview

This course aims to develop knowledge of crime prevention theories and techniques and critical analysis skills to evaluate crime prevention strategies and crime reduction programs. Students will be able to apply their knowledge and skills to make effective contributions to crime reduction in roles within their communities.

Course learning outcomes

  • Discuss the application of criminological theory to crime prevention
  • Apply crime prevention theory in specific contexts
  • Examine the social and political factors which affect the development and application of crime prevention policy.
  • Appraise the empirical research on crime prevention initiatives both in Australia and internationally.
