Course overview

This course will provide students with a detailed understanding of cybercrime exploring the reasons why cybercrimes occur, as well as how they can be policed and prevented. This will be accomplished in three parts. First, students will develop a deep knowledge of both historical and contemporary forms of cybercrime, such as hacking, phishing, illicit online trading, cyber-violence, amongst others. Next, students will explore the application of relevant criminological theories to explain cyber-deviance and better understand offender pathways into cybercrime. Finally, students will critically appraise and evaluate the current state of policing, crime control and prevention strategies.
