Course overview

The aim of this course is to familiarise students with the evolution of criminology and the key theories, concepts, and paradigms within contemporary criminology. This course examines how we define, measure, and explain crime in contemporary society. It looks at crime trends, crime data and research, and media constructions of crime. The course explores key criminological theories and concepts and looks at different crime types and categories to give students a foundational understanding of crime and criminology.

  • Explain the evolution of Criminology and its relationship to other disciplines
  • Analyse the causes of crime using key criminological theories
