Course overview

This course aims to broaden and deepen student knowledge of cinematic storytelling, contemporary film development and pre-production processes in the context of key creative, social, political and industry drivers. This course consolidates students' theory, knowledge and practice of previous film and television production courses and integrates these skills to generate, evaluate, pitch and develop a conceptually, technically and creatively strong cinematic story for a professional-level film or television production.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate the impact of key creative, ethical, social, political and industry drivers on contemporary cinematic outputs
  • Apply a range of creative tools to generate a narrative cinematic idea, informed by insights gained from this analysis
  • Employ advanced storytelling knowhow to develop this cinematic idea into an industry-standard screenplay
  • Create and articulate a cinematic vision and marketing strategy for this film in the form of an industry-standard pitch
  • Apply specialist film production and storytelling strategies and techniques to develop this cinematic vision into a production-ready project
