Course overview

This immersive industry based course, delivered on-site at Rising Sun Pictures, will build upon students’ existing visual effects knowledge, and familiarises students with professional practice in the visual effects industry, providing the theory, skills, and techniques to produce industry-standard creature effects simulations. Throughout this course, students will learn how to use industry-standard hair simulation tools to apply physical properties to hair, including length, thickness, and stiffness. The course covers topics such as hair dynamics and constraints, which enable students to achieve realistic movement and interaction with the environment. By the end of the course, students will have acquired the skills required to produce industry standard hair simulations suitable for film, television, video games, and other media.

  • Advanced grooms for a range of characters and applications

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically analyse and implement industry-standard creature effects production practices
  • Apply key tools and techniques within industry standard software to generate professional quality, photorealistic hair and fur simulations
  • Demonstrate autonomy and adaptability in planning and managing a program of work to meet a production brief and its deadline through iterative project submission and review
  • Demonstrate direction within a simulated team environment and produce work that meets industry-standard quality assurance and review processes
