Course overview

This course aims to prepare students for professional practice by immersing them in an industry-based internship where they apply discipline knowledge to authentic IT projects. Students will enhance their technical capability, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills while demonstrating professional integrity and respect for workplace and cultural diversity. The course supports the development of employability skills and professional identity through reflection and continuous improvement.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply a broad body of discipline knowledge, professional practice and relevant principles and techniques to produce high quality deliverables within a work integrated learning context
  • Design and develop an information technology-based solution to solve a given business problem statement.
  • Demonstrate intellectual and professional autonomy by contributing to all elements of the project when working independently or collaboratively.  
  • Demonstrate professional integrity, ethical behaviour and respect while making decisions informed by independent thinking, evidence, and ethical code of conduct. 
  • Prepare resources, solutions and instructions for diverse stakeholders using a range of techniques including written, oral, and visual communication.
  • Exhibit cultural sensitivities and respect for the practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by considering local cultural requirements within all aspects of the project where appropriate.
  • Critically reflect on learning, performance, professional growth and workplace culture throughout the work-integrated learning experience.
