Course overview

This course will introduce the key research areas in computer science and the challenges confronting the discipline. They will develop use an exploration of the grand challenges of computer science to learn key skills like logic, ethic and reasoning in order to build arguments and have well informed discussions. Students will leave the course with a strong understanding of the state of the computer science discipline and be able to eloquently make reasoned arguments on how to approach solving them.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain key ethical and cultural topics as applied to human interaction and computer science.
  • Evaluate information using logical and rhetorical principles
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration
  • Design a solution to an assigned problem in research or industry.
  • Evaluate a solution based on your design.
  • Produce written reports, presentations, and summaries of your work progress, team interaction, and results.
