Course overview

Students will learn the importance of thinking about their designs in the context of users and their environment and develop an understanding of user diversity. Topics will cover ethics in design, deceptive patterns, cultural diversity in design, inclusive design and teams, accessible design consideration. This course contributes to the program intent of ethical conduct and community respect, and to enable human-centred designs that meet a rich variety of human needs.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the implications of system design decisions from an ethical perspective in contemporary society
  • Evaluate the impact of a system design on different user groups.
  • Demonstrate the application of human centred design towards complex technological solutions that overcome barriers to inclusion.
  • Communicate the value of accessible, inclusive, and ethical design to varying groups of stakeholders.
