Course overview
This course will enable students to apply communication theory and literature on key issues to organisational practices, including: Organisational communication theories as they relate to understanding and working with diverse others; interpersonal and team communication; intercultural and intergenerational communication; workplace practices; feedback in the workplace, oral and visual communication; online communication and social media; negotiation; managing conflict; persuasion and power.
Course learning outcomes
- Discuss strategies for the effective management of organisational communication.
- Explore the implications of diversity in the context of communication theory and practice with particular emphasis upon inter-cultural and international contexts.
- Analyse and apply negotiation strategies, including conflict resolution.
- Apply communication knowledge to common practical contexts in organisations.
- Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Management discipline: i) Problem Solving (intermediate level); ii) Written Communication (intermediate level); and iii) Oral Communication (intermediate level).
