Course overview

The aim of this course is to build on skills gained in introductory courses to develop professional and practical knowledge of writing for a variety of audiences on a range of digital platforms. Students will develop skills in writing for a range of digital platforms and purposes including websites, apps, podcasts, and social media. Students will learn how to engage audiences through digital media by employing best practice writing and content creation approaches inspired by classic storytelling techniques.

Course learning outcomes

  • Examine the socially networked, increasingly mobile and interactive nature of new media.
  • Explain the evolution of, and best practice approaches to, digital and print storytelling.
  • Implement the skills of the digital writer, editor and content creator across a range of media platforms.
  • Create a range of digital storytelling assets and a unique online personal brand.
  • Apply the legal limits and freedoms that inform the work of digital media content creators.
