Course overview

To extend students' knowledge and skills in the analysis of how filmmakers, writers, artists and policy makers have explored themes of identity and diversity relating to the Australian nation and Australia's place in the Asia-Pacific region.

Course learning outcomes

  • Communicate a postcolonial critical understanding of national discourse and historical memory in Australian film and literature.
  • Analyse key concepts in cultural studies, cinema and literary studies.
  • Analyse chosen written and cinematic texts with a range of creative and critical tools.
  • Identify the industrial and cultural contexts of the publishing, television and cinema industries in Australia, and its place in global markets and global cultures.
