Course overview

To develop students' awareness, understanding and use of English in spoken and written language in different contexts.

Course learning outcomes

  • Develop critical thinking and analysis skills to comprehend, evaluate, and critique various texts, including written and spoken content.
  • Construct academic sentence and paragraph writing incorporating academic conventions including paraphrasing, summarising and APA referencing style.
  • Demonstrate an understanding to critically evaluate and organise information to support a written argument.
  • Verbally present a comprehensive analysis of students' writing development, highlighting the progress made through editing practice and incorporating feedback received throughout the duration of the course.
  • Use information and digital literacy strategies to evaluate sources.
  • Implement ethical and responsible academic conduct according to university guidelines and standards.
