Course overview

VR (Virtual Reality), MR (Mixed Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) are technologies that are quickly changing the way we consume media, play games, educate, and communicate. In this course students will learn key skills associated with designing and developing software for these platforms and will experience these technologies through hands-on play. Putting emphasis on production workflow and effective design, students will learn how to create digital assets for XR systems (3D models, textures/materials, sounds), as well as learn how to import these assets and apply interactivity in game engine.

  • Module 1
  • Module 2
  • Module 3

Course learning outcomes

  • Build digital assets (such as 3D models, textures/materials, and sounds) specific for XR platforms
  • Identify and implement appropriate design methodologies for immersive technology development, especially from a physiological perspective
  • Apply foundational literacy in game engine use, asset management and development pipelines
  • Effectively design an immersive XR experience
