Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop specialised knowledge and capabilities for independent scientific research through conduct of an independent research project in Chemistry under academic supervision.

Course learning outcomes
- apply advanced knowledge of chemistry to independently analyse and solve and/or to evaluate solutions to conceptual and/or quantitative research problems
- demonstrate proficiency in safe laboratory practices where required, and professional conduct including principles of ethical practice, research integrity and data management as appropriate to the project
- apply, adapt and/or develop suitable techniques or approaches to address research problems as appropriate to the project
- critically analyse, interpret and present the results of the research project
- evaluate the outcomes of the research project and place these in context through a synthesis of relevant research literature and results
- represent and interpret chemical structures, formulae, equations and reaction mechanisms as appropriate to the research project
- communicate ideas that relate to the research project in written and/or oral form to a specialist and/or general audience
