Course overview
This course will introduce learners to the role of analytical chemistry in the modern world and covers key concepts and core analytical methods that are used by professional analytical chemists. The theory component of the course provides an introduction to metrology (the science of measurement), theory of separation science and its applications, and light-based analytical techniques. The laboratory component of the course provides practical training with a focus on developing quantitative analytical skills using a variety of instrumental methods together with skills required to analyse, interpret and present data. Learners will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in both theory-focused workshops and practical-based laboratory sessions, in addition to technical laboratory skills. These are essential skills for a professional scientist and are highly valued by employers because they directly contribute to the capability to innovate and troubleshoot in a variety of settings.
