Course overview
This course develops advanced capability in Design Thinking as both a methodology and a mindset for innovation in complex, uncertain environments. Students will critically engage with the full cycle of human-centred design while also examining the broader dimensions that shape its practice, including ethics, sustainability, stewardship, and leadership. By integrating systems thinking, reflective practice, and creative experimentation, the course challenges students to reframe problems, generate transformative solutions, and apply altered ways of thinking that are responsive to societal change and responsible innovation.

Course learning outcomes
- Critically evaluate the interdisciplinary theories, frameworks, and global perspectives that underpin Design Thinking, and apply them to complex organisational challenges.
- Employ advanced communication and collaboration skills to effectively engage with multiple stakeholders and demonstrate leadership within Design Thinking processes.
- Apply human-centred design principles (empathy, define, ideate, prototype, test) and complementary frameworks to design, develop, and test innovative, ethical, and sustainable solutions.
- Integrate digital tools, systems thinking, and technological approaches into Design Thinking practice to solve complex management and innovation problems.
- Critically reflect on personal and professional growth as an innovation leader, demonstrating commitment to stewardship, cultural diversity, and lifelong learning.
