Course overview
This course develops students advanced knowledge of the theory and practice of negotiation, including the processes and subprocesses, strategies and tactics that can be applied to achieve mutually beneficial agreements. This course combines collaborative and individual exercises that are theoretical and practical. These exercises allow students to reflect on negotiation experiences and outcomes and develop a reflective praxis, which are essential to constructing knowledge around negotiations and their dynamics as real-life phenomena. By adopting a problem-solving approach, this course gives students competencies and skills to understand, apply, analyse, evaluate, and develop negotiation plans, which are grounded in robust preparation and research.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply, analyse and evaluate the theory underlying negotiation, including conciliation and mediation, with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a project and reflection
- Understand and apply the skills involved in forming strategy, planning and researching for negotiations with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a project and reflection
- Apply, analyse and evaluate skills in the practice of workplace negotiations, face-to-face or online, including for individual and collective agreement making in employment relations with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a project and reflection
- Communicate clearly and research effectively individually and collectively or cooperatively with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a project and reflection
- Reflect on negotiation knowledge and its application to real-life situations and develop a reflective praxis with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a project and reflection
- Demonstrate skills in problem solving, ethical awareness, written and oral communication, respecting cultural diversity, and applying global perspectives with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a project and reflection
