Course overview

The aim of this course is to prepare students for senior leadership roles (nationally and internationally); specifically to lead in a multi- stakeholder context and cope responsibly with social leadership challenges at different levels (individual, organizational and beyond). Students will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of leadership, explore what it means to be an effective and responsible leader and develop advanced leadership competencies. Topics covered in the course include: Leadership and context; Leadership decision making; Transformational leadership; Leadership roles and styles; The inner theatre of leaders; Leadership vision; Leadership development; Self leadership.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically examine leadership theories and understand leadership as a multi-level phenomenon.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of (global) leaders.
  • Experience leadership decision making in a multi- stakeholder context.
  • Explore different approaches towards responsible leadership and become aware of your own preferences and style.
  • Develop a mindful and responsible approach to leadership.
  • Become a role model for responsible and effective self -leadership.
