Course overview
The objective of the course is to provide students with a holistic understanding of the variability in contexts within Asia and how it influences innovation, entrepreneurial ecosystem, and the strategy of organisations. The students learn contextual differences in various Asian countries. The context is also studied holistically as it includes social, cultural, economic, regulatory and innovation systems within Asian countries. A deeper and nuanced understanding of the Asian context allows students to appreciate the past trajectory of entrepreneurship and industry development in the countries and also relate to the current and future directions. Note: The major Asian countries that are focused on are China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. Socio-cultural context and cultural entrepreneurship; Socio-economic context and social entrepreneurship; institutional context; national innovation system and industrial trajectory; domestic growth strategies of national companies; international expansion strategy of Asian companies; strategies of new age innovative companies; developing a business plan for Asian enterprise.
Course learning outcomes
- Appreciating diversity and multiplicity in the Asian context (social, cultural, economic, institutional, and entrepreneurial contexts).
- Assessing how different contexts shape the local entrepreneurship and the associated strategies.
- Synthesizing appropriate technological capability strategy vis-à-vis national innovation system and industry context.
- Examining the complexity of Asian market to design domestic and/or international strategies for growth and impact.
- Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills: i) Problem Solving (advanced level); ii) Teamwork (advanced level); iii) Written Communication (advanced level); and iv) International Perspective (advanced level).

If you are an international student, or a domestic student studying in a full fee paying place, and are continuing study that you commenced in 2025 or earlier, your fees will be available here before enrolments open for 2026.
