Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide students with an advanced understanding of the influence of legal, social, and intra-organisational factors which impact upon workplace health and safety within an organisation as well as contemporary approaches to workplace health and safety system management. Best practice in workplace health and safety; workplace health and safety legislative requirements for the workplace; the role of workers in workplace health and safety; managing risk, social and emerging issues in work health and safety; systematic management of worker health and safety; injury management.
Course learning outcomes
- Analyse and evaluate the components of best practice work health and safety.
- Identify and interpret Australian Work Health and Safety Law.
- Research and analyse contemporary and social issues which impact upon managing health and safety in the workplace.
- Research, identify, analyse and communicate recommendations regarding health and safety risks in the workplace.
- Apply both legal and best practice principles for worker participation in work health and safety.
- Critically analyse, evaluate and communicate recommendations for systematically managing work health and safety.
- Apply principles of Workers Compensation Law to workplace injury situations to communicate recommendations for best practice injury management.
