Course overview

The aim of this course is to enable students to develop an insightful understanding of organisational strategies and the concepts upon which they are built. Examine strategic concepts and the application of analytical tools; strategy formulation and implementation; competitive advantage; problem solving and decision making; creative thinking, innovation and alternative strategic concepts; managing paradox; globalisation; international strategy, emerging markets; environmental scanning; internal resources and environments; business, corporate and network level strategy.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critique strategy formulation.
  • Critique and compare contemporary strategic concepts, with an understanding of pragmatism as it applies to organisational processes.
  • Explain the interaction of organisations with their stakeholders.
  • Critically analyse the development of strategy.
  • Critically evaluate the impact of individual and group behaviour on decision-making and strategy.
  • Critically evaluate the impact of strategic concepts on risk management, decision-making, corporate and social responsibility.
  • Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills: i) Self-Management (advanced level); ii) Problem Solving (advanced level); iii) Written Communication (advanced level); and iv) International Perspective (advanced level).
