Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide students with knowledge of the key principles, concepts, and tools of corporate finance, and their application, equipping them for roles as decision makers in defence and space industry financing, investment, and project risk management. This course covers economic and financial management methodologies and their application to real life scenarios in the defence/space and related corporate sectors including: international financial market analysis; time value of money and discounted cash flow techniques; capital budgeting methodologies; risk and required rates of return; debt and equity valuation; capital structure; debt capacity; project risk evaluation and cost of capital; advanced capital budgeting, real option concepts, and analysis.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the nature, role and operation of globalised financial institutions and financial markets, and the global interplay between financial and economic systems and how they impact the contemporary business environment.
- Interpret corporate financial management concepts and terminology, and explain core corporate finance theories, their application, and limitations in practice.
- Implement advanced economic, financial, and data evaluation skills and tools in making complex, long-term corporate investment, financing, and risk management decisions.
