Course overview
Food systems are complex, comprised of several interlinking supply chains that may spread across the world, and which are therefore affected by multiple, intersecting layers of legal regulation. The course aims to provide students with an overview of the multi-layered system of food regulation at the state, national and international levels, and explores legal aspects of food and wine production, processing, distribution and sales. It aims to provide students with general understanding of the law that frames and guides food and wine business, and to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to recognise when their decisions and activities may implicate the law, how best to avoid legal problems, and how they can employ the law to promote their organisation’s interests.

- Identify and discuss laws and regulations at the state, national and international level that apply to wine and food production, processes, distribution and sales
- Apply wine and food law and regulation to real life scenarios affecting wine and food businesses
- Evaluate how best to mitigate legal risk associated with the application of wine and food law to business
- Outline how wine and food law might be used to promote wine and food business interests
- Produce high quality artefacts used when applying law and regulation to food and wine business
