Course overview
In this course, students will apply knowledge to a professional public health practice or research area and demonstrate relevant professional competencies. Health service and program planning; project management; evaluation; evidence synthesis; cost-benefit analysis; inter-sectoral partnerships and key stakeholders; ethics in public health practice and research; governance, insurance and regulatory requirements; professional communication, advocacy and leadership; cultural safety particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Course learning outcomes
- Develop a project proposal within a public health practice or research context.
- Apply project management techniques to produce high quality deliverables within the public health practice or research context.
- Promote cultural safety and Aboriginal rights in the context of public health program development or research.
- Critically evaluate a public health service, policy, program or research initiative, with regard to governance, regulatory requirements and legislation, ethical practice, and cultural capabilities.
- Design a public health activity relevant to one public health area of practice.
- Demonstrate professional attitudes and behaviours, insightful application of public health knowledge, and advanced communication skills.
