Course overview

This course equips students with knowledge of procurement structures and processes in public and private sectors. It covers the theories and strategies in increasing value for business needs, buyer-supplier relationships and category management; as well as the analytical skills and competencies required in the realm of the digital age for strategic advantage. Theories and frameworks guiding strategic sourcing and supply in global environments; Industry 4.0 shaping procurement digitalisation, support tools, pricing strategy, outsourcing, negotiation, tendering and contract management, addressing ethical issues and sustainable sourcing.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate the procurement structures, processes, skills and complexities inherent in organisations and supply chains today.
  • Examine the theories, frameworks and strategies for tendering and contracting, pricing and service level agreements, negotiation and relationship management in the context of sourcing and supply.
  • Critically analyse the issues in sourcing and supply and recommend solutions to increase value and strategic advantage for businesses.
  • Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management discipline: i) Self-Management (advanced level); and ii) Problem Solving (advanced level).
