Course overview

This course provides students with various perspectives of procurement and purchasing. Students will be able to evaluate the processes and systems for effective strategic, tactical and operational management of assets and resources in both public and private sector organisations including Small to Medium Enterprises (SME's).

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate the processes and complexities inherent in procurement practices in organisations
  • Examine the functions of outsourcing, tendering, contracting, leasing and service level agreements and relationships as they apply to both local and global sourcing arrangements
  • Apply purchasing theory to practical scenarios
  • Compare purchasing options for capital expenditure items
  • Evaluate various sourcing and procurement processes as they relate to the supply chain
  • Recommend appropriate process improvement and compliance systems for more effective procurement
