Course overview
This course explores different social enterprise models and evaluates them in context of the local/global social and sustainability challenges they aim to address. The course aims to provide a valuable foundation for planning a career pathway in sustainability and social entrepreneurship through understanding what social enterprise is and its relation to sustainable development and social impact, and learning how to measure social impact, including pathways to create change through a startup venture, supporting social entrepreneurs in creative ways, or serving as a director of a board. From the public, private or not-for-profit sector, students will identify and develop a social enterprise opportunity that provides potential to scale.

- Compare and contrast different approaches to social entrepreneurship and their effectiveness in addressing social and environmental challenges.
- Develop sustainable business models for social enterprises that integrate principles of sustainability and circular economy.
- Evaluate and measure the social and environmental impact of social enterprise activities using appropriate tools and methodologies.
- Formulate theories of change and strategic plans for scaling social impact in social enterprises.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments for social enterprise projects and propose mitigation strategies.
